Pet Breeding Services

Pet breeding begins with performing tests to ensure both pets are healthy and fertile. We can perform these tests, so you'll know that your pets are ready to breed. We can also provide health certificates, so you can prove that you have healthy breeding stock. We can also assess the reproductive health of your breeding pair before breeding begins.

Timing is essential for breeding. Your female will come into heat about every 6 months. The optimal window is only a few days. Through progesterone testing, we can determine when your female is ovulating, so you will know when to breed.

Artificial Insemination for Pets

You can choose to allow your pets to breed on their own. This is the least expensive option, but it's not the most reliable. Many breeders choose to use artificial insemination for pets instead. This process involves extracting semen from the male, and then inserting it into the ovulating female. This prevents injuries that can occur during breeding and allows you to know the exact conception date.

Semen Collection and Storage

When using artificial insemination, you can choose to use fresh, chilled, or frozen semen. Fresh semen is inserted into the female immediately after collection. Chilled semen can be inserted within three days after collection. This is a great option if the pets aren't in the same area, as it can be shipped to the female's location. Frozen semen can be stored indefinitely, although insemination must be transcervical or surgical. This is an excellent way to preserve your prized stud stock.

Pregnancy Confirmation and Monitoring

After conception, your veterinarian can confirm the pregnancy with an ultrasound. This will also allow you to know the number of puppies. Your vet will also monitor your female throughout the pregnancy to ensure the health of her and her offspring.

C-Section

Sometimes the birthing process doesn't go as planned. A c-section may be needed if there's only one puppy, if the puppies are very large, or the mother has an underlying health condition. Some breeds routinely require c-section due to their body structure, which makes it difficult for them to give birth. If labor has stopped or your pet seems to be in distress during labor, you should contact the vet.
